CBSE Class 11 Artificial Intelligence (843), Syllabus & Marks 2026-27

What is CBSE Artificial Intelligence code 843?

843 is the senior-secondary Artificial Intelligence elective, taken in Class 11 and Class 12. It is a deeper, project-heavy subject that carries 100 marks split evenly: 50 theory and 50 practical. Class 11 lays the foundation that the Class 12 capstone project builds on.

Is AI 843 the same as AI 417?

No. CBSE runs Artificial Intelligence at two levels under two codes:

  • Code 417, Class 9 and Class 10, an introductory skill subject.
  • Code 843, Class 11 and Class 12, a full senior-secondary elective with a 50:50 theory and practical split.

They are designed to flow into each other, but you can take 843 in Class 11 without having done 417.

How is Artificial Intelligence different from Computer Science (083) and Informatics Practices (065)?

AI (417/843) is a skill subject centred on data, machine learning and AI projects. Computer Science (083) is the academic computing subject with deeper programming, data structures and databases. Informatics Practices (065) is application- and data-focused (Pandas, SQL, societal impacts). A common parent question is whether AI replaces Computer Science; it does not, and many students take one of each. See our Class 11 Computer Science syllabus to compare.

Where do the marks actually sit in AI 843?

Because the split is 50 theory and 50 practical, half of the subject is earned in the lab: the practical file, the project and the viva. That is very different from 083 and 065, where practicals carry 30 of 100. Students who treat AI as a reading subject lose marks that are the easiest in the course to secure.

How should a Class 11 student start AI?

  • Get comfortable with Python basics early, since the practical work depends on it.
  • Start the practical file from the first term rather than the last month.
  • Keep a running record of every project decision, because the viva examines your reasoning, not just your code.
  • Confirm your school's exact unit list against the official CBSE curriculum PDF for this session.
